That this House recognises the exceptional community support work undertaken by selfless groups of volunteers and organisations throughout Avondale; commends those volunteers from Strathaven Foodbank run by the Strathaven Evangelical Church which continues providing essential food bank services distributing food parcels to vulnerable households; praises the Strathaven and Glassford Community Council, Banks Renewables and Falck Renewables for releasing funds to support projects across Avondale; appreciates Outreach Community Church for providing free meals to households in the shielding initiative and to those self isolating or vulnerable; commends local engineer Gary Tompsett for manufacturing 250 protective visors and Glasgow University for the frames, for use by local health care workers; further commends Glassford Community Group’s awarding 15 frontline worker nominees a £25 voucher for The Steayban local restaurant and for purchasing emergency wrap around glasses for a local pensioner; thanks Creative Strathaven CIC for producing free art kits for distribution around the community; acknowledges the immense community response and activities of everyone, with specific mention to teams headed by David Childs and Roddy Gillies and community groups including Avondale Young Farmers, churches, Community Council members and local volunteers providing prescription collections, shopping deliveries and support services throughout the greater Avondale Community; and recognises the cooperative alliances between the groups mentioned above, The Strathaven Community Resilience Group, local authority groups, VASLAN, Home Energy Scotland, Strathaven Business Association and Avondale LEAP who together strive to ensure that nobody within Avondale is forgotten and everyone knows where to find help if they need it.
