That this House notes with sorrow the passing of Ashington born World Cup winner Jack Charlton; further notes Jack's successful career with Leeds United for whom he played between 1950 and 1973 winning the football writers player of the year in 1967 and his successful managerial career most notably a World Cup quarter final with the Republic of Ireland; notes the charity, humour and character of Big Jack who was loved in his hometown, his adopted city of Leeds and across the Irish Sea; and calls on the Government to right a historic injustice by awarding a posthumous knighthood to a wonderful footballer and person.
