Neilston Show awarded Queen's Award for Voluntary Service
EDM #758
Tabled 21 July 2020
2019-21 Session
That this House notes that the Neilston Show has received the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service; acknowledges that that is the highest award which a voluntary group can receive in the UK; notes that that award is made to recognise outstanding work undertaken by volunteer groups to benefit local communities; applauds the dedicated volunteers whose commitment, imagination and sheer hard work all year enable an outstanding show to be put on year in and year out; recognises that the variety and scope of that show encompasses a wide range of interests, activities, groups and information; understands that the Educational Marquee was acknowledged as outstanding in the way that it allows the whole community to understand, see and experience traditional agriculture, local farming, crafts and skills; further notes the interactive and entertaining nature of that show; thanks the volunteers involved in the organising and running of that excellent local show; appreciates that Neilston Agricultural Society representatives will receive that award from Colonel Peter McCarthy, Lord Lieutenant of Renfrewshire; and further understands how disappointing the cancellation of the 2020 show is for the whole community, but looks forward confidently to another outstanding Neilston Show in 2021 and in the years to come.
