Ruchazie Pantry in Glasgow

That this House welcomes the upcoming opening of Ruchazie Pantry, the first pantry in Glasgow; recognises that this has been the culmination of two years of work by a number of organisations and individuals including Ruchazie Parish Church, Fare Share, Ruchazie Housing Association, Glasgow Housing Association, Ruchazie Community Council, Councillor Mandy Morgan, Councillor Ruairi Kelly, Glasgow City Council, City Building and City Property; understands that food insecurity is a major issue in many communities and that the use of food banks has increased dramatically since the introduction of universal credit; commends an approach that offers the dignity of choice at an affordable level in an environment free from stigma and used by all the community; appreciates that this not only addresses food insecurity but also the huge volumes of food waste created in society; and congratulates all involved in the creation of a locally run, sustainable and equitable solution to the environmental and social issues of food waste and insecurity.
