Motion text
That this House notes that 11 September 2020 marks the 47th anniversary of the military coup d’etat in Chile that overthrew the democratically elected Government of Salvador Allende and led to 17 years of military dictatorship; solemnly pays tribute to the more than 3,000 people murdered and 30,000 tortured in the coup’s aftermath; condemns the actions of the Pinochet dictatorship and those successive UK Governments that supported it; further notes that democracy and peace must never be taken for granted; and vows to expel all violence and violent rhetoric from politics.
