That this House congratulates Fiona McAvoy, the Head Teacher at Newton Primary School, Ayr on being awarded the MBE as part of the Queen’s Birthday Honours List for her services to education over three decades; notes particularly her inspirational leadership and determination to reduce the effects of poverty and disadvantage by supporting children and young people in North Ayr, where she has worked tirelessly to ensure children and families receive the right help, at the right time from the right people; further notes her commitment, above and beyond her role as an educator to partnership working with parents and the wider community to ensure that before and during lockdown, that children and families had access to food, clothing, bedding, toiletries, energy top ups and essential household items; and wishes Fiona and all of the staff at Newton Primary School continuing success in reducing the impacts of poverty and disadvantage in the local community.
