That this House notes the dispute between the tenants of Simpson House and Olympic House in Somerford Grove, Stoke Newington and their landlord Yiannakis Theophani (John) Christodoulou who is a Monaco-based British billionaire property developer, the owner of Yianis Group, a privately owned company with a portfolio of residential, hotel, retail and leisure properties in the UK and Europe; further notes the Government advice that As part of our national effort to respond to the COVID-19 outbreak it’s important that landlords offer support and understanding to tenants who may start to see their income fluctuate but notes that the renters in Somerford Grove have not had support and understanding from John Christodoulou in line with that Government guidance although they have asked for fair and reasonable rent adjustments from their landlord; notes that, far from entering into negotiations, residents have been harassed and spied on; calls on landlords nationwide to negotiate with tenants experiencing income fluctuations because of the covid-19 pandemic; and further calls on John Christodoulou to enter into negotiations with his tenants for fair and reasonable rent adjustments in the light of the covid-19 pandemic.
