That this House celebrates the life of Jim Newell, a proud resident of East Kilbride, after hearing the news of his passing on 28 September 2020 at the age of 83; noting his service to the Royal Navy as a young man and his role in the strike by workers who refused to repair the airplanes of the Pinochet regime in Chile at the Rolls Royce factory in East Kilbride where Mr Newell worked for over 20 years; recognises his contribution to East Kilbride through his founding and tireless support of East Kilbride Thistle Football Team, through his performances as part of the Greenhills Pantomime Club and the Greenhill Male Voice Choir, and as a long standing member of Greenhills Parish Church; and draws particular attention to Jim and his wife Jessie’s boundless hospitality and care for people most in need through fostering over 100 children during his lifetime, through which they are truly an example to us all.
