Motion text
That this House welcomes the announcement by the Skylark IX Recovery Trust of their intention to create the Spirit of Skylark Centre, an exciting new immersive heritage experience and boatbuilding training centre in Dumbarton; recognises the outstanding work of the Trust in keeping the heritage of the tragedy of Dunkirk alive by working to restore Skylark IX, which is believed to be the only surviving Dunkirk vessel in Scotland, that over the nine-day mission rescued over 600 cold and tired soldiers, helping transport them on to larger naval ships whilst under fire; understands that the Skylark IX Recovery Trust will be working in collaboration with Alternatives West Dunbartonshire to ensure that the new centre helps more people recovering from drug addiction or facing social isolation across West Dunbartonshire; believes that this valuable joint effort will preserve the Skylark IX in an historically authentic and dignified way whilst at the same time helping more people make a positive and even transformative change to their lives and community; and wishes to extend its full support to those involved developing this important community project.
