Motion text
That this House applauds the success of the Green Flag Award scheme, which this year celebrates 25 years of recognising those who help create some of the best parks in the world and recognises and rewards well managed parks and green spaces; welcomes that the principal aims of the scheme are to ensure everybody has access to quality green and other open spaces, irrespective of where they live, and that these spaces are appropriately managed and meet community needs; welcomes news that 2,127 parks and green spaces received an award in 2021, including Rouken Glen Park in East Renfrewshire, which opened in 1906 and is one of the west of Scotland's most popular and best loved parks, which has achieved Green Flag Status in each of the last five years and was recently voted the second best free visitor attraction in Scotland; further welcomes news that the 2021 winners include Whitelee Windfarm, located on Eaglesham Moor and operated by ScottishPower Renewables, where the hugely popular visitor centre is enjoyed by families looking for fresh air on a day out, and where dog walkers can enjoy a slice of peace and quiet and cyclists and horse riders can explore the dedicated network of tracks and trails; and looks forward to the continued success of the Green Flag Scheme which is operated so successfully in Scotland by Keep Scotland Beautiful.
