Motion text

That this House congratulates John-Paul Mackie on winning the title Pharmacist of the Year 2021, at the Independent Pharmacy Awards reception in the House of Commons; notes that this award, run in association with the Independent Community Pharmacy magazine, shines a light on the brilliant work of John-Paul Mackie as a pharmacist in the Cardonald community of Glasgow and his teams across the Glasgow area; notes John-Paul Mackie was voted Independent Pharmacist of the year for his revolutionary use of technology and automation, where he combined the use of a dispensing robot, with a pill pack robot and a 24/7 prescription collection point to allow patients to collect their medicine 24 hours a day from the pharmacy store front; further notes this encouraged physical distancing and supporting key and shift workers during the pandemic and importantly the move towards automation ensured his pharmacy stayed open for every scheduled hour of the pandemic and supported the local community pharmacy network when other pharmacies had to close or restrict their services as their teams isolated with covid; recognises that automation also greatly improved the patient experience, by freeing up his teams time to spend with patients, providing additional NHS services and delivering quality patient care; and wishes Mr Mackie and all staff associated with Mackie Pharmacy continued success going forward.
