Motion text
That this House commends the big hearts and thoughtfulness of the residents of Lavender Drive, East Renfrewshire, dubbed Scotland’s most festive street after residents switched on a street-long Christmas display that has transformed the street into a winter wonderland to raise money for cancer research and support; notes that the idea for the festive initiative came during the 2020 lockdown when local resident, father of two Fred Banning, was diagnosed with terminal bowel cancer; recalls that Mr Banning’s plea to the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation for those living with a terminal diagnosis and their immediate family members to be a high priority for the administration of the covid-19 vaccine was highlighted in EDM 1260; further notes that by asking for donations from those who came to see the spectacular light show last Christmas, the street’s residents raised more than £5500 for the Beatson Cancer Charity, and backs the residents in their desire to collect even more money this Christmas for Cancer Research UK.
