Motion text

That this House notes the disappointment at recent news that Alcoholics Anonymous leaders have branded meetings in one venue as too Christian focused and have removed this venue from the Organisations online directory; further notes the historical background of AA meetings which were started in the 1930s by Christians and fully supports the need for faith in some people's lives to get through these difficult times; highlights the willpower of those struggling with addiction and actively seeking help and expresses respect for all who make the decision to seek a meeting to help with their addiction; understands that some find solace through prayer and faith whilst going through the impacts of addiction and diseases such as alcoholism, which should be respected; and further notes the ongoing work undertaken by AA to support those dealing with alcoholism and thanks this organisation for the dedication to supporting those who seek to control their addiction and turn their lives around.
