Motion text
This House celebrates the success of former Plaid Cymru president, Dafydd Iwan’s iconic folk song ‘Yma O Hyd’, We’re still here, for reaching number one in the iTunes chart 41 years after its release in 1981; congratulates Welsh football supporters who led the campaign to get the song to number one after adopting it as their unofficial anthem; notes how the song tells the defiant story of the survival of the Welsh language and culture against all odds over the past millennia; further celebrates how the song is uniting Welsh language and non-Welsh language speakers from across the whole of Wales in their shared passion for Welsh football, culture and identity, demonstrating the enduring strength of the Welsh communitarian spirit; and gives special thanks to Dafydd Iwan for his life's work of inspiring generations of people in Wales through his music and activism.
