Durham Miners' Gala 2022

Motion text

That this House celebrates the in-person return of the Durham Miners’ Gala or the Big Meeting on Saturday 9 July 2022; notes that the Durham Miners’ Gala was cancelled in 2020 and 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic; welcomes the news that the 2022 Gala will be dedicated to the key workers who risked their lives to keep society functioning throughout the pandemic; recognises the important historical and cultural ties between the mining industry and County Durham; thanks miners for their economic and cultural contribution to Durham and Britain across centuries; recognises miners and the National Union of Mineworkers for their contributions to the labour movement, trade unionism, and the Labour Party; and encourages everyone to become a Marra.
