Motion text
That this House congratulates Barrhead and District Pipe Band on its victory in the Grade 4 competition at the Ardrossan Highland Games; notes that the band, which was formed in 2013, only started competing in 2018 and has taken part in just six events; further notes the band has members as young as nine, with the oldest aged 67, and this victory was a particular reward for those who helped keep the band going during the Covid pandemic when many other musicians put their instruments away due to lockdown restrictions making face-to-face rehearsals impossible; and recognises that this victory was an emotional achievement for pipe major Iain Grant, who won the same competition with Neilston and District Pipe Band 27 years ago, and endorses his view of this as a great achievement given the challenges the band and its members have faced due to the pandemic.
