Motion text

That this House wishes Pentland Plants all the very best on their 100 year anniversary this year; notes that the Loanhead-based company, which includes a retail garden centre and plant nursery, engages in a wide range of products and services, including growing over 50 million plants a year, selling plug planta throughout the UK, supplying finished bedding to parks, travelling to flower trials to source new varieties, and more; further notes that the business’s history stretches back to 1922 when Joseph Spray, grandfather of current director Carolyn Spray, became involved in horticulture through working in a market garden in Leamington Spa and growing vegetables and flowers in his smallholding after serving in the First World War; celebrates Pentland Plants’ history of innovation, including having the UK’s first replugging machine and the use of a biomass boiler to make growing poinsettias over Christmas possible; wishes Pentland Plants all the best for their birthday celebration event on 13-14 August, during which there will be a special afternoon tea, fun fair, food stalls, face painting, tombola, games, and prizes; and thanks Pentland Plants for their contribution to Midlothian’s horticultural and business communities.
