Motion text
That this House believes that trade within the UK should be tariff free; notes guidance issued by HMRC on 24 August 2022 advising of a 25 per cent tariff on some steel exports from Great Britain to Northern Ireland as a consequence of the Northern Ireland Protocol; believes that any such tariff is unacceptable and will result in competitive disadvantage for UK firms; and calls on the Chancellor of the Exchequer to immediately suspend the tariff, and for the Government to move swiftly to replace the Protocol with arrangements that restore Northern Ireland's place within the UK internal market.
