Motion text

That this house acknowledges the 70th anniversary of the loss of the roll-on/roll-off ferry MV Princess Victoria off the shores of Northern Ireland near the Copeland Islands on 31 January 1953; commemorates the loss of 135 lives, including Northern Ireland Finance Minister Sir Maynard Sinclair, and the MP for North Down, Sir Walter Smiles; pays tribute to the bravery to the crews of the ships and lifeboats that rallied to her assistance, in particular the crew of the Donaghadee lifeboat, the Sir Samuel Kelly, who saved the lives of 33 passengers; commends the efforts of the community in Donaghadee to preserve the Sir Samuel Kelly; and praises the ongoing dedication of the volunteers with the Royal National Lifeboat Institution to rescue those in peril on our seas.
