100th anniversary of the war memorial in Comber

Motion text

That this House celebrates the 100th anniversary of the war memorial in Comber, Co. Down, Northern Ireland; notes that the monument in the war memorial was dedicated to the memory of the gallant officers, non-commissioners officers and other men belonging to Comber and District who gave their lives for their King and country in the Great War of 1914-18 and the Second World War of 1939-45; further notes that Comber and District Memorial was unveiled and dedicated on Saturday afternoon of 14 April 1923 in the presence of a very large concourse of people and that it was erected in the square beneath the shadow of the monument which perpetuates the memory of a great hero of bygone days, Sir Robert Gillespie; highlights the incredible work of the Comber District Royal British Legion (RBL), which is an integral part of the country's largest armed forced charity with over 180,000 members and 110,000 volunteers who give support wherever needed; acknowledges the expert advice and guidance that the RBL provides to ex-personnel on the road to recovery; and thanks them for their dedication and work in helping our fallen heroes adjust into normality after serving their time.
