Motion text

That this House notes the efforts made by Nottingham Forest Football Club to sign American goalkeeper Brad Friddel, and their subsequent application for a work permit for him from the Department of Employment; notes also that the Professional Footballers Association have objected to this application, despite two similar signings being accepted for players at Blackburn and Leeds United in the last month; registers its concern that the Department is being asked to intervene in ways which could treat Nottingham Forest less favourably than other clubs, leaving the Department open to accusations of unfairly influencing the outcome of the Premier League; and calls upon the Department to approve Nottingham Forest's application, and allow the club to concentrate on securing its place in the Premier League.
