Motion text

That this House is appalled by the use of the term 'nigger in a woodpile' by the honourable Member of Bridlington on BBC Television's Westminster Live Programme on Wednesday 3rd March; is reminded of the derogatory origins of this phrase, and is aware of the offensiveness of such language to Britain's black community; and calls upon the honourable Member to make an apology to that community for his racist language.

CONDUCT OF THE HON MEMBER FOR BRIDLINGTON (Amendment 1)
leave out from 'House' to end and add 'notes the phrase "nigger in the woodpile" used by the honourable Member for Bridlington on BBC Television's Westminster Live programme on Wednesday 3rd March; is amazed that anyone could see the honourable Member for Bridlington's choice of words as racist; and commends him for expressing himself in terms that ordinary people can understand.'.
