That this House pays tribute to the outstanding efforts of the Lerwick lifeboat crew, aided by an oil support vessel, following an 18 hour rescue operation during Storm Babet; notes that the lifeboat launched at 1pm on 19 October 2023 to go to the aid of the Danish fishing boat Westbank and returned to port at 7am on the morning of 20 October, having recovered the Westbank sixty miles to the east of Shetland and enduring severe overnight storm conditions, low temperatures and high winds at sea; believes that lifesaving emergency services, such as the RNLI, should never be taken for granted; and expresses gratitude to all those who put themselves in harm’s way to protect the lives of people at sea.
