Motion text
That this House understands that rail operator Avanti West Coast is intending to withdraw its daily direct service between London Euston and Shrewsbury from June 2024; notes with concern that if this service is withdrawn it would mean that the county of Shropshire has no direct rail service to London; further understands that the Shropshire Chamber of Commerce has voiced concerns that the removal of the service would risk isolating Shropshire businesses from the growth potential of having a direct connection to London, and has called for the decision to be reversed; is concerned that removing this rail link could disincentivise sustainable rail travel and increase carbon emissions; and calls on the Government to ensure that the planned service cuts are withdrawn and the London Euston to Shrewsbury service is protected.
