Motion text

That this House, noting that in Britain the fitting of seat belts in coaches is required only in exposed seats and only in coaches which exceed 60 miles per hour, mindful of research by the Consumers' Association showing that 12 per cent. of coach occupant deaths in coach accidents would be prevented by the universal wearing of seat belts and that injuries would be less severe for at least a third of severely injured coach occupant accident victims if seat belts were worn universally, noting Department of Transport support for the fitting of seat belts in all seats in coaches and that legislation for the compulsory fitting of seat belts in all seats in coaches has been blocked at the European level, calls on the Government to introduce national legislation for the compulsory fitting of seat belts in all seats in coaches.
