Motion text

That this House recognises the increasing prevalence of sex tourism; notes that the British Government has ratified the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and that Article 34 of the said convention calls for international co-operation to protect children worldwide from all forms of sexual exploitation and sexual abuse; calls upon the British Government to fulfil its obligations under the said Article, such action to include the enactment of laws conferring jurisdiction on the British courts to try British nationals and residents for sexual offences against children abroad; notes that similar laws are likely to be passed by Germany; and welcomes Channel Four's Dispatches programme on child prostitution in Thailand, broadcast on 10th February, highlighting the issues.
