Motion text
That this House congratulates the people of Chester-le-Street on the town’s 1,900th anniversary being marked this year; notes that, in 2009, the then County Durham archaeologist dated the construction of the Roman fort of Concangis, under what is now Chester-le-Street, and its vicus (village) at 125 CE, 1,900 years ago this year; celebrates the key role Cade’s Road, the Roman road through Chester-le-Street played as part of the Great North Road from London to Edinburgh, the main land route between the two cities prior to the construction of railways; recognises that, during these 1,900 years, countless people have travelled through the town on matters of national and personal importance; and wishes the people of Chester-le-Street well in their onward journey.
