Motion text

That this House notes with concern the cost of rail travel for passengers aged 30 and over who are not eligible for existing discount railcards such as the 16-25, 26-30, or Two Together railcards; recognises the financial strain placed on rail passengers, who are not eligible for concessions, by rising rail prices; further notes that rail fares in England and Wales most recently rose by 4.6 per cent in March 2025; expresses concern at the cost burden falling on single individuals over the age of 30; believes that public transport should be affordable and accessible to all as part of efforts to reduce carbon emissions, ease congestion, and promote sustainable travel; and urges the Government to work to reduce rail prices as well as provide more affordable and accessible rail travel options and incentives for people age 30-50 for the benefit of the environment and economy.
