Motion text

That this House welcomes the launch of the Shakespeare Curriculum project, a new project providing free, high-quality teaching resources to help every child and young person access and enjoy the works of William Shakespeare, developed by The Royal Shakespeare Company and funded by the Foyle Foundation; notes that the project brings together teachers, academics and theatre practitioners to ensure that Shakespeare’s plays are taught in a way that is inclusive, engaging and relevant to students from all backgrounds; recognises the importance of Stratford-upon-Avon, the playwright’s birthplace and a centre of excellence for arts education, as an enduring source of inspiration for this work; acknowledges the contribution this initiative will make to supporting literacy, creativity and cultural understanding across the UK; and calls on the Government to support the roll-out of this curriculum to schools nationwide so that all young people can study and appreciate the works of our national poet.
