Motion text
That this House expresses grave concern regarding the actions of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) during their takeover of el-Fasher in the Darfur region of Sudan as part of the ongoing conflict between the RSF and government forces, which has displaced a reported 12 million people since 2023, resulted in the deaths of over 150,000 people, and has been characterised by the systematic killing of civilians on an ethnic basis, and by targeted sexual violence against women and children; fully supports the International Criminal Court’s investigation into these reports and reaffirms its commitment to upholding international humanitarian law; recognises that the Government has called an emergency council session at the United Nations to address these developments and urges the Government to use this opportunity to put pressure on the RSF to deescalate and to allow the continuous and uninterrupted flow of humanitarian aid to enter el-Fasher and the wider Darfur region; and calls on our international partners to come together on diplomatic efforts to end the violence in Sudan by advocating for an internationally mediated ceasefire, to hold all parties accountable for their actions throughout the wider conflict, and to commit to offering the necessary support to the Sudanese people so that their desire for a lasting peace in their nation can eventually be achieved.
