Motion text

That this House marks Road Safety Week with deep concern at the continuing toll of deaths and serious injuries on the UK’s roads as a result of drink-driving; acknowledges the profound and lasting harm to individuals, families and communities caused by these entirely preventable tragedies; recognises the importance of using every available measure to protect the public and uphold the right to safe travel; notes the growing international evidence that alcohol interlock devices, or alcolocks, can play a significant role in preventing drink-driving and supporting offender rehabilitation; further notes that a range of approaches to their use have been successfully adopted in other countries; and calls on the Government to explore how such technology could be implemented in the UK as part of the forthcoming Road Safety Strategy.
