National Tree Week 2025

That this House celebrates National Tree Week, taking place from Saturday 22 to Sunday 30 November 2025; considers that it serves as a valuable reminder on the importance of trees to our changing climate and marks the beginning of the tree planting season; notes that this year’s theme is A Future Filled with Trees, which emphasises the need for continued planting and care of trees in the hope they will become the central feature of our national landscapes; praises the generosity of Carbon Aware Production and Ham and Doulting Stone for their support in funding the planting of 3,000 native trees on Ham Hill, the work of Chilthorne Green Steps in providing planning for several tree-planting projects across their area and Reimagining the Levels, who since 2020 have planted over 120,000 trees in the county to help increase Somerset’s tree canopy cover from 8% to the national average of 13%; acknowledges the extensive biodiversity benefits that ample tree cover provides, such as increased habitats and food for wildlife, preventing soil erosion, managing stormwater runoff and improving air and water quality; and calls on the Government to commit to doubling woodland cover in England to 20% by 2050 through the continued planting of tree species in new and existing woodlands that are able to adapt to the UK’s changing climate to help bolster the nation’s climate resilience.
