National ban on street-racing

EDM (Early Day Motion) 2340: tabled on 20 November 2025

Tabled in the 2024-26 session.

This motion has been signed by 28 Members. It has not yet had any amendments submitted.

Motion text

That this House expresses deep concern at the continuing rise in illegal street-racing across the United Kingdom; notes with sorrow the fatalities and serious injuries that have occurred as a direct result of these reckless activities, which endanger not only participants but also innocent road users, pedestrians and spectators at these events; further notes that High Court injunctions currently used by some local authorities to prohibit such events have proved inconsistent, difficult to enforce, and limited in geographical scope; believes that a fragmented system of localised injunctions leaves communities without adequate protection; and therefore calls on the Government to introduce a comprehensive, nationwide ban on all forms of illegal street-racing on public roads, to include robust powers for police to seize vehicles involved, to establish penalties that apply not only to drivers but also to passengers who encourage or facilitate the offence, and to strengthen laws against organisers and promoters of such events.
