Gambling executives' profits

EDM (Early Day Motion) 2353: tabled on 24 November 2025

Tabled in the 2024-26 session.

This motion has been signed by 37 Members. It has not yet had any amendments submitted.

Motion text

That this House notes with deep concern the scale of personal wealth being accumulated by senior executives and owners of the UK’s gambling industry, including an individual annual pay award exceeding £150 million at a time when millions of families are struggling with the cost-of-living crisis; recognises that the profits of this sector are derived from losses incurred by ordinary people, often including those facing addiction, debt and hardship; further notes that gambling harms are estimated by the Department of Health and Social Care to cost the UK over £1billion each year, and that Public Health England estimated there was between 117 and 496 suicides annually in 2023 to gambling-related causes; acknowledges that the NHS and local authorities currently have to bear the social and financial burden of those harms; and calls on the Government to double the Remote Gaming Duty.
