Motion text
That this House supports the proposed West London Orbital (WLO) as a shovel-ready, low-carbon rail scheme that would deliver a high-value new connection across west London; notes that it requires no major tunnelling or land acquisition and aligns with the Government’s national renewal agenda; recognises that the WLO is a key London Mayoral transport priority backed by several local councils; acknowledges its strong economic case, including the potential to enable 15,800 new homes, 23,000 jobs and wider benefits such as reduced congestion and improved air quality; expresses concern that west London’s £70 billion economy has underperformed since the pandemic; believes the WLO would help unlock growth locally and nationally through strengthened supply chains, skilled jobs and investment; and urges the Government to consider issuing a statement of intent on exploring the scheme and to commit to joint funding and delivery discussions with the Mayor of London, the Greater London Authority, Transport for London and the Department for Transport.
