Motion text
That this House celebrates the 80th anniversary of The South Devon Branch of the Devonshire Association for the Advancement of Science, Literature and the Arts; notes the branch's remarkable contribution to South Devon's scientific, cultural, educational, literary and community life over the period since the end of hostilities in 1945; recognises the generations of members who have contributed to its success, and the many members, both of the branch and the wider Devonshire Association, who have made it part of their lives; congratulates the organisers, members and community on the success of the afternoon of talks on the subject of the English Riviera Geopark held on Saturday 4 October 2025, which, aided by both UNESCO and the National Lottery Heritage Fund, brought people together in a joyful and inclusive celebration of this historic milestone; extends best wishes to the branch’s organising committee and members as they begin a new chapter in the branch’s distinguished legacy; and commends the admirable and worthy contribution of the Devonshire Association, now a Charitable Incorporated Organisation, in playing a central role in bringing knowledge of the history, science, literature, art and industries of Devon to a wider audience both within the communities of Devon and across the UK through the passionate promotion of the county in all its diversity.
