Motion text

That this House notes the importance of free, fair and timely local elections as a cornerstone of democratic accountability; recognises that Norfolk County Council elections are scheduled to take place in May 2026; further recognises the particular importance of these elections for residents in Great Yarmouth, including in relation to local services, transport, social care, coastal management, housing and community safety; believes that electors should have the opportunity to pass judgement on the performance of their local administration at the ballot box as planned; calls on the Government and all relevant authorities to ensure that the Norfolk County Council elections proceed on schedule in May 2026 without postponement; and further calls for any administrative, financial or legislative measures necessary to guarantee voter access, confidence in the process and the proper resourcing of electoral administration across Norfolk, including Great Yarmouth.
