Motion text
That this House celebrates 75 years of Mebyon Kernow (Sons of Cornwall), the Cornish political party campaigning to win greater self-government for Cornwall through their own legislative Parliament; notes that the historic nation of Cornwall, with its own distinct identity, language and heritage, has the same right to self-determination as the other constituent parts of the UK, such as Scotland and Wales; highlights that Mebyon Kernow is a progressive party striving to build a confident and outward-looking Cornwall that has the power to take decisions for itself; commends the party for launching the Declaration for a Cornish Assembly in 2000, which was supported by over 50,000 people, and for reaching across the political divide to seek more powers for Cornwall; and congratulates party members and activists for seven-and-a-half decades of campaigning on behalf of Cornish society and for Cornwall’s culture, identity, economy and environment.
