Motion text
That this House notes with concern that Matthew Doyle is to be appointed to the House of Lords; further notes that Matthew Doyle campaigned for former Scottish Labour councillor Sean Morton after Morton had been charged with child-sex offences, and that Morton was subsequently convicted of these offences; further notes with concern that the Government knew of Doyle’s association with Morton before offering him a peerage; reminds the UK Government that a Scottish Labour Member of the Scottish Parliament, Pam Duncan-Glancy, resigned from her role over her own relationship with Morton but remains a Scottish Labour MSP under Anas Sarwar’s leadership; believes than Matthew Doyle’s appointment is wholly indefensible; and calls on the UK Government urgently to revoke its offer of a peerage to Matthew Doyle.
