Brain cancer

EDM (Early Day Motion) 2620: tabled on 15 January 2026

Tabled in the 2024-26 session.

This motion has been signed by 34 Members. It has not yet had any amendments submitted.

Motion text

That this House recognises that 13,000 people a year are diagnosed with brain cancer yet treatment and survival chances have not significantly progressed in decades; notes a key reason for the poor survival rates is due to a lack of tissue freezing; is concerned that in many hospitals, tumour tissue is not stored or preserved to the necessary standard; further notes that patients are not always informed or asked for consent about how their tissue will be used; is disappointed by the Government's failure to hold information about how many NHS trusts have facilities for flash freezing brain cancer tissue; acknowledges the possible benefits of a cancer registry that automatically records tumour data, covers the entire population and is used for research, oversight and quality improvement; and calls on the Government to pay close regard to the specific difficulties facing advanced brain cancer patients in their upcoming National Cancer Plan and ensure it delivers improvements for brain cancer patients including equitable access to tissue freezing.
