Motion text

That this House notes with deep concern the 36th anniversary of the mass exodus of approximately 350,000 Kashmiri Hindus from the Kashmir Valley beginning in 1989–90; acknowledges the targeted persecution, threats, intimidation and violence carried out by jihadi Islamist groups against the Kashmiri Hindu community that forced families to flee their homes, lose their livelihoods and abandon places of worship and cultural heritage; recognises the long-term suffering, displacement and trauma endured by those displaced and their descendants; calls for remembrance of this human tragedy and continued support for survivors and displaced persons; urges the Government to promote international awareness of the historical events, protect minority rights and work with relevant bodies to ensure accurate documentation of the persecution faced by Kashmiri Hindus; and affirms the right of all communities to live in safety, dignity and equality free from religiously motivated violence and persecution.
