Motion text
That this House marks the 88th anniversary of the Castlecary rail disaster of December 1937, in which 35 people lost their lives and 179 others were injured; remembers with deep respect those who died, including many service personnel travelling home for Christmas leave, and extends its sympathies to their families and descendants; pays tribute to the emergency responders and local residents who assisted at the scene; recognises the longstanding efforts of the local community to ensure the tragedy is not forgotten, including the Castlecary Community Council and Councillor William Buchanan, who throughout his dedicated long-term service to the community has played a key role in commemorating the disaster; welcomes the memorial in Castlecary Gardens as a lasting reminder of the human cost of rail disasters; and reaffirms the importance of remembrance and continued commitment to rail safety.
