Motion text
That this House expresses deep concern over the recreational use of segments of the River Meon for off-road driving; notes that such activity is causing significant damage to the riverbed and constitutes ecological vandalism to one of the UK’s rare chalk stream habitats; underlines the fact that the River Meon is a legally protected chalk steam and expresses disappointment that local authorities have failed to act to take the necessary enforcement action to protect it; and urges the Government and local authorities to take decisive action to prevent vehicles damaging the riverbed of the River Meon by introducing a Traffic Regulation Order so as to protect one of Hampshire’s beautiful and rare chalk streams.
