Securing the Ukraine Permission Extension scheme

EDM (Early Day Motion) 2833: tabled on 23 February 2026

Tabled in the 2024-26 session.

This motion has been signed by 44 Members. It has not yet had any amendments submitted.

Motion text

That this House notes that, as the fourth anniversary of Vladimir Putin’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine approaches, many Ukrainians living in the United Kingdom continue to face uncertainty regarding their status and future security; recognises that Ukrainian families have become valued members of communities across the country, including in Newton Abbot and across the UK, where they are working, volunteering, studying and contributing to local life; further notes the anxiety caused by the current operation of the Ukraine Permission Extension (UPE) scheme, including short-term extensions and the limited 28-day application and processing window; believes that this approach places individuals and families in an unnecessarily precarious position; and therefore calls on the Government to publish a clear long-term position on the UPE scheme as referenced in the Home Office statement of November 2025, to extend and provide greater flexibility in application timescales so that applicants may apply earlier without penalty, to update the Partners Pack to provide clear guidance to employers, local authorities, universities, schools and other institutions, to guarantee ongoing support for sponsors including continuation of thank you payments, and to streamline and simplify the scheme’s administration while ensuring that children and vulnerable adults are fully protected from discrimination.
