Motion text
That this House notes with profound anxiety the recent military escalation involving the United States, Israel and Iran, sparked by an illegal, unjustified, and unnecessary large-scale military attack upon the latter, and the risk of a widening and lengthy regional war resulting from this; recognises the grave danger that continued military confrontation would pose to civilian life, regional stability and global security, as well as the continued sanctity of international law and the international rules-based order; believes that further military action would have catastrophic humanitarian consequences; calls on the Government to press urgently for an immediate ceasefire by all parties; further calls on the Government to support a central role for the United Nations, including engagement through its Security Council, in facilitating de-escalation, dialogue and a return to diplomacy; upholds that diplomacy, dialogue and adherence to international law must be the primary means of resolving disputes; stresses the need to ensure the safety and full consular support to British nationals directly impacted by the conflict; and urges the Government to reverse its decision to allow the use of UK military bases, including Diego Garcia and RAF Fairford, for military action connected to this escalation; and finally encourages the Government to work co-operatively with all international partners to prevent further escalation, reduce tensions, and secure a peaceful negotiated resolution.
