That this House welcomes and commends the Government of Punjab and the Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, for undertaking substantive legislative, administrative and enforcement reforms aimed at eradicating bonded labour and modernising the brick kiln sector; recognises the historic challenges posed by debt bondage within the industry and the vulnerability of kiln workers to exploitive labour practices; notes the strengthened implementation of the Bonded Labour System (Abolition) Act 1992 and the Punjab inspections, worker registration initiatives, digested wage payments and access to social protection mechanisms; acknowledges efforts to transition traditional kilns to environmentally improved technologies in line with Pakistan's commitment under the Paris Agreement; recognises collaboration with international partners including the international Labour Organisation to align labour standards with global best practice; and calls on the UK Government and British investors to continue constructive engagement with Pakistani counterparts to support the eradication of modern slavery, the protection of workers rights, the reduction of emissions and the protection of sustainable economic development in the brick manufacturing sector.
