National No Smoking Day

That this House recognises that Wednesday 11 March marks National No Smoking Day 2026 and the continued importance of policy action to achieve the UK’s ambition of a smokefree society; celebrates the progress made over recent decades in reducing the harm caused by tobacco, but acknowledges the latest data from the Office for National Statistics (ONS) which shows that around 4.9 million adults in Great Britain still smoke - representing 9.1% of the adult population aged 16 and over - and highlights the need to ensure smokers have access to comprehensive cessation advice and support across the country; further notes that ONS data also shows that, for the first time, there are now more adult vapers than smokers, with approximately 5.4 million adults - representing 10% of the adult population aged 16 and over - using e cigarettes daily or occasionally in Great Britain; further recognises therefore the changing landscape of nicotine use in the UK and the increasing need to support people not only to quit smoking but to complete their journey towards total freedom from tobacco and nicotine addiction when they are ready and able to do so; and urges the Government to prioritise passage of the landmark Tobacco and Vapes Bill, expand access to cessation services that address all forms of tobacco and nicotine dependence, and renew national public health campaigns that direct people to tools and support to achieve a tobacco and nicotine free future.
