Motion text

That this House warmly commends the Government of Pakistan and the Government of Punjab for their determined and sustained leadership in pursuing wide-ranging reforms to transform the brick kiln sector; expresses appreciation for the strong political commitment shown by federal and provincial authorities to uphold the dignity, rights, and welfare of workers historically vulnerable to debt bondage; applauds the Punjab Labour Code 2026; supports the improved labour inspection regimes, wage transparency measures, and social protection programmes for kiln workers and their families; welcomes Pakistan’s forward-looking environmental reforms to modernise traditional kilns through cleaner technologies that reduce emissions and improve public health in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement; notes the constructive partnership between Pakistan and international organisations including the International Labour Organization; and calls on the UK Government and the British investors to continue constructive engagement with Pakistani counterparts to support the economic development across Pakistan.
