Motion text
That this House notes the public distress and misunderstanding that followed a recent high profile event in which an involuntary tic was misinterpreted, and recognises the hurt experienced across multiple communities as well as the broader impact such incidents have on people living with Tourette syndrome when the involuntary nature of these words are perceived as being voluntary; further notes widespread reports of insufficient access to specialist Tourette syndrome assessment, diagnosis and treatment services across many parts of the UK; expresses concern that the lack of consistent and accessible medical provision leaves many individuals and families without timely or appropriate clinical support; recognises the significant social, educational and emotional challenges faced by people with Tourette syndrome when such services are limited or unavailable; acknowledges that recent events demonstrate the need for improved public understanding of the involuntary and complex nature of the condition; calls on the Government, NHS England and relevant stakeholders to work collaboratively to review national provision, develop clear clinical pathways, support training for healthcare professionals, and ensure equitable access to care across all regions; and further expresses solidarity with the Tourette community, affirming the importance of reducing stigma, improving awareness, and ensuring that all individuals receive the understanding and support they require.
