Motion text
That this House notes the recent fire affecting a historic building near Glasgow Central railway station; recognises the cultural, architectural and economic importance of Scotland’s historic built environment, including in cities such as Edinburgh, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and Glasgow; further notes findings by Historic Environment Scotland that approximately 143 buildings within Glasgow city centre are considered to be at risk; expresses concern at the ongoing vulnerability of historic properties across Scotland to neglect, fire and structural deterioration; emphasises the importance of proactive preservation and restoration efforts to protect Scotland’s architectural heritage; and calls on the Government to work with the Scottish Government, local authorities and heritage organisations to strengthen protections, support regeneration, and ensure the long-term safeguarding of at-risk historic buildings.
